Its history can be traced back to ancient Roman times, when it gained popularity as a summer retreat for Roman emperors. However, its origins extend even further into the pre-Roman era, revealing remnants of Sabine settlements. During the Roman Empire, Tivoli earned renown for its lavish villas.

Villa d’Este

Nestled in the heart of Tivoli, Villa d’Este stands as a Renaissance masterpiece, enchanting visitors with its extraordinary blend of artistic and landscape beauty. Constructed in the 16th century under the patronage of Cardinal Ippolito II d’Este, the villa is celebrated for its opulent gardens and grand fountains, exemplifying the pinnacle of Italian garden design. The gardens of Villa d’Este are adorned with intricate water features, cascading waterfalls, and statues, creating an ambiance of enchantment and magnificence. Historically, Villa d’Este holds a prestigious legacy, having served as the residence for notable Renaissance figures. Rocca Pia

Commanding the Tivoli skyline with its medieval splendor, Rocca Pia stands as a magnificent fortress that weaves tales of the past while offering a panoramic vista of the surrounding beauty. Constructed in the 15th century by the directive of Pope Pius II, Rocca Pia was designed to safeguard the city and its strategic importance. The elevated position of the fortress, in proximity to Villa d’Este, adds allure to its architectural silhouette.
